Plain-language summary of how Mzansi Price Check handles your information.
What we collect
Your account details: email address, display name and the account type you chose (shopper or retailer).
Your area: the province, city and suburb you pick, and — only if you allow it — your approximate GPS location so we can show shops near you.
Your contributions: prices, taxi fares, shops, routes, photos of shelf labels and the confirmations or disputes you make.
App usage: which prices you view or save, searches you tap, and basic device information (phone or desktop, browser, screen size) so we can fix bugs.
What we never do
We never sell your personal information.
We never show your exact GPS coordinates or your home location to other users.
We never show your email address to other shoppers, retailers or store owners.
Retailers never receive your name, contact details or individual activity — only anonymous totals such as how many people viewed their store.
What other people can see
Prices and fares you add appear publicly so the community can check them.
Your display name and area appear next to contributions only while the matching switches are on in your profile — you can turn both off at any time.
Photos you attach to a price are used to verify that price and are reviewed by moderators.
Your rights (POPIA)
You can see and correct your personal information in your profile at any time.
You can delete your account from Profile → Delete my account. We remove your personal details, saved lists, baskets, alerts and activity history.
Prices and fares you already contributed stay in the community record without your name, because other shoppers rely on that price history.
You can ask us anything about your data through the in-app feedback form.
Security
Your data is stored on managed, access-controlled infrastructure with row-level security so people can only read their own private records.
Photos of shelf labels are stored in restricted buckets. Store documents used for ownership verification are visible only to that store's owner and our moderators.
